Fyrirlestur í heimspeki: Bridget Clarke

Vorið 2023 stendur Heimspekistofnun fyrir röð rannsóknarfyrirlestra í heimspeki. Önnur í röð fyrirlesara er Bridget Clarke, professor í heimspeki við University of Montana í Bandaríkjunum. Clarke sérhæft sig í siðfræði og stjórnspeki og hefur meðal annars skrifað um dyggðir og heimspeki Iris Murdoch. Fyrirlesturinn Clarkes er á ensku og nefnist „Bridget Clarke, Iris Murdoch and the Political Reach of Just and Loving Attention“. Öll velkomin.

Iris Murdoch’s concept of “just and loving attention” is probably the most influential notion of attention in ethics. In this paper, I explore an aspect of its political ethical purchase. Specifically, I consider the extent to which just and loving attention looks to be an effective antidote to racism in liberal democracies, such as the US or India, where it has a powerful history and presence.
