Doktorsvörn við Íslensku- og menningardeild: Yoav Tirosh

Þriðjudaginn 29. október 2019 fer fram doktorsvörn við Íslensku- og menningardeild Háskóla Íslands. Þá ver Yoav Tirosh doktorsritgerð sína í íslenskum bókmenntum sem nefnist On the Receiving End. The Role of Scholarship, Memory, and Genre in Constructing Ljósvetninga saga. Vörnin fer fram í Hátíðasal í Aðalbyggingu Háskóla Íslands og hefst kl. 13:00.

Andmælendur við vörnina verða Massimiliano Bampi, dósent við Ca’ Foscari háskóla í Feneyjum, og Stefanie Gropper, prófessor við Háskólann í Tübingen.

Doktorsritgerðin var unnin undir leiðsögn Ármanns Jakobssonar, prófessors í íslenskum bókmenntum fyrri alda við Háskóla Íslands. Aðrir í doktorsnefnd voru Pernille Hermann, dósent við Árósaháskóla, og Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir, rannsóknarprófessor við Stofnun Árna Magnússonar í íslenskum fræðum.

Um rannsóknina

This thesis reveals how scholarly preconceptions guided the reception of a specific saga, Ljósvetninga saga, and contributes to a wider understanding of how saga, Old Norse, medieval, and general literature are each constantly changing and unstable, both in their preservation, and in the ways they are presented to the general public and scholarly community. It focuses on issues of memory and genre that arise from a material philology approach, providing a literary analysis of both redactions of the saga as independent texts with their own intrinsic value.

Um doktorsefnið

Yoav Tirosh is an Israeli-Romanian with a BA in History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MA in Viking and Medieval Norse Studies from the University of Iceland. During his studies he spent a treaching semester at the University of Silesia, and a semester at Aarhus University where he assisted with the Handbook of Pre-Modern Nordic Memory Studies. Interdisciplinary Approaches. He is currently employed as a Post-doctoral researcher for the Disability before Disability Rannís funded project.
