Carbfix is a verified and tested carbon storage solution that was developed in Iceland. I will present both the history and fundamentals of the Carbfix technology, the current active projects, the key systems components as well as engineering challenges. The Carbfix technology offers a safe and economic carbon capture and storage chain and has already helped decarbonize Iceland’s geothermal sector as well as created jobs in the emerging carbon removal industry. In addition to technical challenges associated with the scale-up of the carbon management sector today, I will also discuss practical challenges that the sector is facing such as a lack of skilled workforce and market drivers.
