Um fyrirlesturinn
This lecture is based on the corpus compiled within the project: The coverage and reception of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in Polish, Romanian and English-language media: A comparative critical critical discourse study with recommendations for journalism training (CORECON), implemented at the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. From the selected news, I analyze how the image of women is presented during military conflicts by comparing the political, military and social discourse. The focus is on the hegemonic relationship in order to highlight that women are not "passive" in military conflicts and with this overview I want to point out the need to re-evaluate how women are perceived in times of military crisis. The image of women during military conflicts is also analyzed by using visual rhetoric as a tool, by which we find important information regarding the presence of women in war, but also about the perpetuation of gender stereotypes.
