In 2019 abortion law in Northern Ireland changed from being one of the most restrictive legal frameworks globally to one of the most liberal.
This talk will reflect on the successes and challenges of implementing the new law including the role of the activist community in providing abortion doula services. The impact of the new legal framework on reproductive citizenship (on the sense of belonging to society),will be discussed, drawing on lessons from an all-Ireland study which focused on those who had abortions and abortion providers.
Dr Fiona Bloomer, academic and activist at Ulster University & Gyða Margrét Pétursdóttir, professor in Gender Studies at University of Iceland.
The event will be in English.
