Dr. Anne Bamford, Visiting Professor internationally recognised expert in education, creativity, and student engagement, will lead a workshop for university teachers preparing their courses for the next academic year.

The workshop focuses on practical ways to increase student participation in on-site learning (staðnám) through the design of learning activities, classroom structures, and assessment practices that encourage students to attend class and actively participate in face-to-face sessions. Participants will explore why students may hesitate to attend and engage, how classroom culture shapes participation, and how small changes in teaching design can make learning more inclusive, meaningful, purposeful, and manageable. The workshop is especially relevant for teachers who want to move beyond one-way lecturing and create more interactive, student-centred learning environments that encourage students to come to campus for live sessions.

Participants are invited to come with a five-minute, actionable, practical, engaging, and embodied teaching idea that they will implement in their own teaching.

Anne Bamford is also a featured speaker at the Listavor event in Saga on 30 May from 11:00–11:45, where she will deliver the lecture State of the Arts: Where Iceland Stands — and How to Build Creative Futures. An educational futurist and passionate arts educator, Professor Dr Anne Bamford OBE, FCGI is Director of the International Research Agency, President of the Education Inspiring Peace Laboratory, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Sydney. She is internationally recognised for her research in arts education, creativity, innovation, inclusion, and the future of education and skills development.
