Go Ito, prófessor við Meiji University, flytur fyrirlestur á vegum námsgreinar í japönskum fræðum við Mála- og menningardeild Háskóla Íslands og Alþjóðamálastofnunar HÍ. Fyrirlesturinn nefnist „Shifting Geopolitics: Japan, Asia, and the United States“

In his lecture, Professor Go Ito examines the United States' offshore balancing strategy in East Asia, addressing Japan's relationship with the United States, China's rise, and concerns among East Asian countries regarding the United States. His discussion provides a broad overview of Asia-Pacific international relations while also considering the historical background of current developments.

Professor Go Ito, Meiji University

Director of Research, Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR)

Professor Ito graduated from Sophia University and received his Ph.D. from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1997. In addition to his professorship at Meiji University, he has served as Director of Research at the Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR) and held positions as adjunct professor and researcher at numerous institutions in Japan, including Waseda University, Sophia University, and the House of Councillors of Japan.

He has served as a visiting professor at the University of Victoria (Canada), Peking University (China), Academia Sinica (Taiwan), the University of Bristol (United Kingdom), the Australian National University, and Western Sydney University.

Professor Ito was awarded an Eisenhower Fellowship in 2005 and received the Nakasone Yasuhiro Award in 2006. His research focuses on U.S.-China-Japan triangular relations, U.S. policy toward East Asia, cross-strait relations between China and Taiwan, Indo-Pacific international relations, and theories of international relations and strategic studies.
