Bernd Pulverer mun halda erindi í fyrirlestraröð GPMLS undir yfirskriftinni From Bench to Journal: Connecting Open Science and Publishing. Fyrirlesturinn fer fram á ensku.

Ágrip og bio á ensku má sjá að neðan.

Abstract: Editorial selection and quality control at the five EMBO Press journal enables a constructive, informed publication process to support the scientific community. Peer-reviewed open access journals synergize with open science outputs such as preprints and data repositories. This is exemplified by the concept of ‘refereed preprints’ and the Review Commons journal agnostic review service, as well as the publication of curated, quality-controlled source data by EMBO Press. Data and methods should be available for data focussed peer review and AI-human based quality control steps. Open Science platforms allow sharing with minimal delay and maximal transparency and increase the efficiency of scientific dissemination while encouraging constructive research assessment.

I will also discuss the editorial process with a focus on EMBO’s progressive publication policies, how AI is changing publishing and research integrity. This will be put in the context of progressive research assessment reform exemplified by the DORA and CoARA inititatives.

Bio: Bernd Pulverer is the Chief Editor of EMBO Reports and the Head of Scientific Publishing at EMBO Press. He started his scientific career at Cambridge University and earned his PhD in 1992 in London at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, where he uncovered posttranslational regulation of the transcription factors c-Jun and c-Myc by the JNK and MAP kinases, working on signal transduction and transcription. After conducting postdoctoral research in Toronto, Seattle, and Innsbruck on transcription and proteolysis, he joined Nature as a Senior Editor in 1999. From 2002 to 2009, he was the Chief Editor of Nature Cell Biology. Since 2009, he has been Head of EMBO Press and was appointed Chief Editor of EMBO Reports in 2021. Additionally, he serves on several committees, including DORA, Review Commons, STM Image Integrity, CoARA, and the Vienna BioCenter.
