Hvers vegna nýtur Pútín svona mikils fylgis í Rússlandi?

Dr. Susanna Pshizova, prófessor í stjórnmálafræði við Mannheim Centre for European Social Research, flytur fyrirlestur um valdakerfi Pútín í Rússlandi og þær aðferðir sem hann beitir til að halda völdum. Susanna Pshizova er rússnesk og var dósent við Lomonosov ríkisháskólann í Moskvu áður en hún flutti af landi brott.

Fyrirlesturinn verður haldinn 14. ágúst kl. 11:00-12:00 í stofu 220 í Aðalbyggingu Háskóla Íslands og fer fram á vegum Miðstöðvar einsögurannsókna innan Sagnfræðistofnunar HÍ.

Why Putin's policies enjoy mass support in Russia

Public opinion polls that appeared immediately after the start of Russia's aggression against Ukraine shocked not only ordinary citizens and politicians both in Ukraine and in the West, but also experts in the field. It turned out that the majority of Russian citizens, contrary to the expectations of many, not only did not protest against President Putin's decision to start a full-scale war against a neighboring state, but also supported this policy. This picture did not correspond to the dominant ideas about Russian society. And yet it is the logical result of the deliberate years of efforts of the ruling group. Over the past 20 years, a public sentiment management system has been formed in Russia to ensure mass support for the policies pursued by the authorities. This system can be called "manageable democracy". This presentation will discuss the reasons and prerequisites for its emergence, basic principles and technologies of political management, which ensure the maintenance of legitimacy of the current political regime in Russia.
