Ágrip á ensku: The ability of cancer cells to outcompete and eliminate neighbouring stromal cells impacts oncogenic growth and metastasis. Cell competition allows cancer cells to remove stromal cells and thus gain space and nutrients essential for growth. We discover that cancer and stromal cells use molecular fitness fingerprints “Flower- WIN” and “Flower-LOSE” proteins to exchange fitness information, respectively. Cancer cells program the microenvironment cells to express marks with low fitness to gain competitive advantages.
